The Day Surgery Program is a service to the patient who may have minor surgery or short-term medical procedures and go home the same day. Here are some of the things you will need to know whether you are going to have day surgery or inpatient surgery.
Please note: The statements below are general statements regarding surgery and are subject to changes.

I. Your surgery will be scheduled at either:
- Willamette Falls Hospital -- (503) 650-6845
- Meridian Park Hospital -- (503) 692-2203
Some of our surgeons require a pre-op appointment. Your doctor or surgery scheduler will discuss if this applies to your particular surgery.
II. You should expect at least 2 phone calls from hospital staff members before your surgery.
- Pre-Admit Nurse. A nurse will be calling to obtain your medical history and a list of any medications, herbs, or vitamins you are taking. This will save you 30-60 minutes the day of your surgery.
*If you haven't heard from the nurse 1 week before your surgery, please call the numbers given above
- Pre-Registration Coordinator. The coordinator will telephone to verify your personal information-address, date of birth, medical insurance, etc. Financial information will also be discussed. Please be sure to have your medical insurance card available when speaking with the coordinator.
Laboratory, X-ray and EKG tests may be indicated before your surgery. Your doctor will advise the lab as to which tests he wishes to have performed and our surgery schedulers will inform you of which lab to use.
Generally we ask our patients to arrive at the hospital 2 hours prior to their scheduled start time. These times will be given to you by our surgery schedulers if/when surgery is scheduled.
**Your surgeon makes every attempt to begin your surgical procedure on time. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, your original scheduled time may change. We do understand that you have made family and work adjustments as well as transportation arrangements. However, we do ask that you be as flexible as possible on the date of your surgery in the event of unforeseen changes to the schedule. **
If applicable, bring insurance forms and/or identification cards with you to the hospital.
Please DO NOT eat or drink anything (including water) after midnight preceding surgery. Failure to comply may result in the cancellation of your surgery. If medication must be taken, take with one a sip of water.
Please shower or bath the day of the surgery before going to the hospital
Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing. If your procedure is upper body related, wear a button down shirt.
Please do not wear any make up, jewelry, hair pins, or hair pieces.
You may wish to bring along a book, crossword puzzles, etc. to fill periods of time when you may be waiting
Please arrange for someone to drive you home, as you will not be allowed to drive for twenty-four (24) hours following surgery.
If the patient is a child, for safety and added comfort, please plan for a second adult to be present when your child is discharged (one adult to watch the child and the other to drive). We strongly discourage taking young children as visitors the day of surgery.
If you are having day surgery, regular meals will not be served. However, beverages and a light snack will be available.
While we do prior authorize everything connected to your surgical procedure, there is no guarantee that your insurance will cover all costs.
If you have any questions regarding your surgery, please do not hesitate to contact us.
